Electrically Rotatable Polarizer Using One-Dimensional Photonic Crystal with a Nematic Liquid Crystal Defect Layer
Polarization characteristics of defect mode peaks in a one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystal (PC) with a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) defect layer have been investigated. Two different polarized defect modes are observed in a stop band. One group of defect modes is polarized along the long molecular axis of the NLC, whereas another group is polarized along its short axis. Polarizations of the d...
متن کاملOptical characteristics of a one-dimensional photonic crystal with an additional regular layer
In this paper, the forbidden Photonic Band Gaps (PBGs) of a one-dimensional Photonic Crystal (1D PC) with additional regular layer, t for the constant value of the lattice constant A and at normal incident of light beam were investigated. The additional regular layer was formed from both sides of the high-refractive index layer H. The gap map approach and the Transfer Matrix Method were used fo...
متن کاملInvestigating the Properties of an Optical Waveguide Based on Photonic Crystal with Point Defect and Lattice Constant Perturbation
In this paper, a photonic crystal waveguide with point defects and lattice constant perturbations of +5%, -5% are being investigated. Firstly waveguide structures with constant and specific parameters are being studied and photonic band gap diagrams for TE/TM modes are depicted; then pulse propagation in the frequencies available in the band gap are shown. After that, effects of parameters like...
متن کاملA New Method for Calculating Propagation Modes of a One Dimensional Photonic Crystal (RESEARCH NOTE)
Photonic band-gap (PBG) crystals offer new dimensions of freedom in controlling propagation of electromagnetic waves. The existence of stop-bands in the transmission characteristic of these crystals makes them a suitable element for the realization of many useful microwave and optical subsystems. In this paper, we calculate the propagation constant of a one-dimensional (1-D) photonic crystal by...
متن کاملNonlinear properties of waveguides with twisted nematic liquid crystal
Optical reorientational nonlinearity in twisted nematic liquid crystalline planar waveguide is analyzed theoretically. It is shown that optical nonlinearity for guided modes in analyzed waveguides can be approximated by saturation nonlinearity. Predicted nonlinearity is large enough to observe e¤ects like spatial solitons formation with milliwatts of light power. PACS: 42.65.Wi, 42.70.Df
